Elvis Almeida
Rio de Janeiro, 1985.
It is with great pleasure that the gallery announces the representation of the artist Elvis Almeida (Rio de Janeiro, 1985). He graduated in engraving at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and took courses in serigraphy with Evany Cardoso at the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage, and in art history with Jailton Moreira, also in Rio.
His artistic practice, focused on painting, follows a personal methodology, which is not based on real or imaginary references, but articulates itself in forms, colors, and gestures in a singular and dynamic way. The works, on the borderline between the figurative and the abstract, follow repetitions of circular patterns, dots, lines, and stripes, which give them a sensorial and joyful appeal, to which their timeless and uncertain character is not unrelated. Elvis’ works also connect with his formative history, going through comics and references in other Brazilian artists to his urban experience within a big city.
In 2007, he received the scholarship for the first class of the Furnas Sociocultural Incubator for Artistic Talents and received the Graffiti Category Award at the 47th Fine Arts Salon of Pernambuco. In 2011, he participated in the exhibition Arte Pará 2011, in Belém, and won the grant Interações Florestais 2011, from Terra UMA, Serra da Mantiqueira.
