ANDRÉ DAHMER AT SILVIA CINTRA + BOX 4
For the first solo show at Silvia Cintra + Box 4, the cartoonist André Dahmer selected a series of comic strips published in the last three years at O Globo and Folha de São Paulo. In addiction to the cartoons, the show brings together four paintings and a flag with the words “Ainda estamos aqui” that welcomes visitors and gives the title to the exhibition.
In the gallery space, the originals of the cartoons were separated into small thematic groups, so that the viewer “reads” the exhibition. Pandemic, customs, satires on the art world, social networks and Bolsonaro government are some of the themes chosen to present a kind of panel of what has been our life in recent years.
The set of paintings deals with the virtual world and brings a humorous reflection on what the internet and social networks have become. One of them reads “Stop photographing any shit”. Also, there is a painting of the tweet made by the former football player Petkovic in 2010 that said “Come on guys, everything will get better after the 2014 World Cup” and finally Dahmer painted the image of a failed restoration of Ecce Homo that became a meme worldwide. The artist’s idea in these last two paintings was to transform a virtual image into a kind of artisanal NFT, an inversion of everything that is being discussed today in the art world.
