Mayana Redin
—
Dark File, Mayana’s first solo show at the gallery, has a selection of works made during 2015 and 2016. Through objects, videos, photos and installations the artist proposes that the visitor experiences darkness, using appropriated or built images.
Her research goes through cosmology and the possible relation between it and earthly life, our day to day lives. In the works Cannon and Sun, celestial phenomenon videos such as of a solar transit and an eclipse are shown on CRT TVs that works as a light source. In the works Fold and Bread, pages and whole astrology books are used as support for simple actions such as folding and creasing, to directly interfere in the bread dough and clay.
The work… justaposes the photo documented biographies of two women who traveled to space in the 60s and 80s. Through an slide carousel tray we can clearly see how these images were “produced” to sell an idea of future and progress, even though with two decades in between them.
Dark file, the piece that renders the exhibition its title, iis a real time projection of a text file in a computer that is being darkened through a key that is uninterruptedly pressed, thus creating a giant dark file to be printed at the end of the show.
