O mágico, a princesa e suas peripécias
Miguel Rio Branco
—
From November 17 the gallery opens the show “O mágico, a princesa e suas peripécias” with unseen works by Miguel Rio Branco. There will be 14 works, all backlights, with images made by the artist at different times and that are then assembled creating connections, like a puzzle of light and color. This, by the way, is the basis of all the construction of Rio Branco’s work.
“The walls of the gallery were painted gray to cut out the light. There is always a relationship with light in my work, but in this exhibition the relationship is direct,” says the artist, who has also included a light table in the middle of the space, with chromes of various images, like the one he uses to assemble his work in the studio.
For Miguel, this exhibition is a tribute to analog photography. “Everything here is about precision, about what cannot be corrected. The negative has possibilities, but chrome does not. The process is all manual, handmade.”
The show at the gallery takes place concomitantly with the solo exhibition “Crossword” that the artist is presenting at the Moreira Salles Institute in Rio de Janeiro.
Miguel is today one of the national artists with the greatest projection abroad, with a curriculum full of exhibitions in spaces of great prestige, such as The New MoMA, Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA (2019); 33rd edition Bienal de São Paulo – Afinidades afetivas, SP; Maison Européene de la Photographie, Paris, France (2018); Troposphere, Beijing Minsheng Art Museum, Beijing, China (2017). The artist has, since 2010, a pavilion in the contemporary art center of Inhotim (MG). A space that he considers the most instigating proposal of communion between art and nature.
