Você vê os pássaros? Sempre quis que você visse os pássaros daqui
Omar Salomão
—
In the exhibition “Você vê os pássaros? Sempre quis que você visse os pássaros daqui”, his first individual at the gallery, the artist and poet Omar Solomão will present an unseen series of paintings, sculptures, sketchbooks and photographs.
The show begins with a photograph of an image of Iemanjá wrapped in a barbed concertina, those used for house protection. Beside it there are four drawings in dripped blue, which were wet in the sea and passages of poems were written. Next comes the work that gives title to the exhibition, a series of drawings in nankin picturing a flock of birds.
The barbed concertina still appears in two series, “Guardar”, which are drawings in nankin folded and enveloped by the rigidity of this material and “Circuito de Afetos”, where the concertina gains fluorescent colors and appears attached on wooden boards, bubble wrap and others remains.
Fluorescent colors follow in the series “Síntese” and “Lance”. The artist launches dices on painted plywood and then repaints the surface forming a totally random painting, with only the memory of these cubes. Later, these same painted dices appear in small wooden boxes, stuck to the wall, giving an idea of confinement of the possibilities suggested by rolling the dices.
The exhibition ends with the series “Quadro de Avisos”. Omar’s sketchbooks, which are both process and final work, appear locked inside a notice board with a key, which can be opened or not.
