Projeto em preto e branco
—
Black and white Project is a remake of a show presented at the former Silvia Cintra Gallery in Ipanema, 15 years ago. The group show gathered artists from different generations who used different media. This was also the last exhibition Lygia Pape participated in life.
For this new edition, also curated by Silvia, the cut-out of the chosen works was a bit more defined. They will be black, white or black and white pieces, starting in the 70’s through to brand new ones especially made for the show, such as Cinthia Marcelle’s installation. Cinthia was recently announced as the solo representative for Brazil at the Venice Biennale.
Another highlight of the show are two drawings by Nelson Leirner from the 70’s which are part of the series “A hard line doesn’t last” made during the military dictatorship in Brazil. These drawings are part of the artist personal collection and were never shown before.
“Black and white Project is an affective show that I thought it was about time to be repeated. It is amazing to realize how the use of black and white can have so many different unfolding in each one’s body of work, but the most interesting point is that when you see all the pieces together you understand why they are lacking color”, points out Silvia.
Amilcar de Castro, Anna Maria Maiolino, Chiara Banfi, Detanico and Lain, Fernanda Gomes, Marcelo Cidade, Marcius Galan, Mira Schendel, Nicolás Robbio, Odires Mlászho, Sérvulo Esmeraldo, Véio, Waltercio Caldas are also present in the show.
