Thix

Thix
Porto Alegre, 1982.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the representation of Thix (Porto Alegre, 1982); a recent voice among a new generation of figurative painters, who has been receiving attention for works that mirror elements of the history of painting – a strong sense of light and shadow in unfoldings of color, form and materiality – and dwell on a look at intimacy through a queer lens. She studied drawing and painting at the Barcelona Academy of Art (Spain) and the Florence Academy of Art (Italy). She currently lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
His work speaks to the legacy of figurative painting and portraiture, skillfully combining historical references with contemporary life and human connection.
Portraying himself and individuals from his community, Thix’s paintings celebrate presence, singularities – in subject and process – and a closeness that engages new dialogues around identity, gender, agency, corporeality, archive and memory.
As complex as they are provocative, Thix’s works invite an encounter between subject and viewer, the personal and the political, and signify a recalibration of who sees and who is seen, communicating other ways of relating, loving, producing memory, and new interlocutions.
In 2021, the artist was selected for the Figurative (MEAM) and Royal Society of Portrait Painters (UK) international competitions. In 2023, she took part in the Uncool Artist Residency in Brooklyn (NY), group shows at Solar dos Abacaxis and Centro Cultural dos Correios (RJ), and was selected for the 15th Salão dos Artistas sem Galeria promoted by Mapa das Artes, III Bienal Black Rio, GAS Verão 2024 and is a current finalist for the Garimpo das Artes Award from DasArtes Magazine.
