Art Basel Miami Beach 2018
—
For the NOVA section of Art Basel Miami 2018 the gallery Silvia Cintra + Box 4 intends to present a collection of recent works by two artists, Chiara Banfi and Pedro Motta. What strongly links the work of the two is the presence of elements of nature in the construction of images. Leaves, stones and water are the starting point for works that propose a new look and a new use for what we already found “ready” in the world.
Chiara Banfi (1979) has in music her main source of research. Musical instruments, sound boxes, records and recordings are the basis of her drawings, sculptures and paintings. For the fair, Chiara prepared a new series with vinyl record covers.
Pedro Motta (1977) uses photography as the basis of most of his works, and then creates, on the computer or with drawings on his own photograph, illusory scenes. For the fair the gallery selected two recent series, “Rio das Mortes” (River of Deaths), in which Motta creates a sinkhole in each of the images and “Linha D’água” (Water Line), in which the artist creates an impossible landscape with a boat on top of a rock.
