Silvia Cintra + Box 4 gallery opens on march 19th, the new solo show by the painter Cristina Canale. With 7 paintings and 2 watercolors, the exhibition has as its central theme the female figure, from its use to personify myths to identity issues so relevant in today’s digital world.

These figures are sometimes reduced to small details, such as hairstyles, seductive lips, looks. They are small narrative fragments, some even with “bubbles” of thoughts and dialogues, which resemble the language of comics. The images are collages and overlays of cinematographic references, magazines and even social media.

Canale, with his typical colorful palette, remains faithful to the language he has been developing since the 1980s, using the tension between figuration and the “abstract situation” to enhance the image and generate instability in the look.

According to the artist “In the Mirror, it is an exhibition that prioritizes painting as language and dialogue with the world of images that surrounds us daily.”

Living since 1993 in Berlin, Cristina Canale is one of the exponents of Brazilian painting. His career began in the 1980s, when he participated in the iconic show “Como Vai Você Geração 80” at Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro. Since then, Canale has shown his work frequently in prestigious national and international institutions.
